At Balfour Primary School, our maths curriculum is ambitious for all learners.  We want children to be excited and enjoy practical maths lessons which encourage exploration, so that children can see the bigger picture, deeper understand the mathematics and make powerful mental connections between concepts. 

Our aim is that our children develop a fluent, efficient recall of facts and procedures and have the flexibility to move between different contexts and representations of mathematics.  The emphasis at each stage is teaching a deep and sustainable understanding of maths through using a CPA (concrete, pictorial, abstract) approach (Jerome Bruner).
