SEND

Please see the documents for details of our local offer for Special Educational Needs. We have also produced a booklet explaining Special Education Needs at Balfour Primary School.

All staff pride themselves on the inclusive learning environment that we create at our school. Our focus is on ensuring that all children are supported effectively through Quality First teaching. Adaptive teaching supports pupils to access the curriculum to enable them to reach their full potential and help prepare them for the future.

Our last OFSTED monitoring visit in June 2021 recognised the hard work that has taken place by all staff:

You are determined that the school’s curriculum meets the needs of all pupils, including pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Considerable progress has been made here. We saw teachers in many classes making sensible adaptations to their lessons to ensure that every pupil was being supported to learn and remember more of the subject they were studying. Leaders are now focusing on ensuring that this support happens consistently in every class and in every subject.

We were also very delighted to achieve the Inclusion Quality Mark in July 2022 and in the report the assessor highlighted

Inclusion is central to the ethos of the school. Balfour’s vision is that inclusive quality first teaching is the best way to meet the learning needs of all pupils, including those with SEND.

I believe that Balfour Primary School meets the standard required by the Inclusion Quality Mark’s Inclusive School Award. I am confident that the continued reinforcement of the Balfour routines and systems will lead to excellent outcomes and outstanding inclusive practice.

Our Executive Inclusion Co-ordinator is Mrs Rachel Clark, please contact her for any further information. Please also see our SEND policy and Information report.
